In 2004 former project R_1 which was initiated in 2002 together with mtm was renamed as Apollo.
The Design shown on 2003 degree show at Munich University was modified as follows:
- Total width
- Longer front overhang
- Total wheel covering by wheel arches
- Rear spoiler and gurney flap
- Bigger Diffusor
- Maximum air outlet behind front wheels
- Maximum rear air outlet for engine cooling
- Lifted roof depression
- Adapting wheelarch to wheel size and camber
- Adapting rocker to underfloor
- Adapting head lights to existing series components
Our design responsibility ended after those modifications.
GMG Sportwagenmanufaktur Altenburg GmbH was established. Later on it was renamed Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH, Altenburg.
In this phase series production started. In contrast to the R_1 the Apollo was fully dedicated for racing without any compromise for styling. Aerodynamical optimisation for maximum downforce got the main objective.
The Apollo could be purchased by the Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur until 2012.
